ESRA Technical Committee on
Offshore Safety

Safety and reliability analysis of Offshore structures encompasses consideration of hazards caused by accidental loads (e.g. due to fire, explosion and collision) as well as environmental loads. Furthermore, assessment of the structural resistance to different types of loading is required as part of the analysis.

As a recent topic, the interaction between control systems (e.g. dynamic positioning systems) and loads imposed on the structure is appearing as being highly relevant. As part of this interaction the role of operation criteria and human factors also enter the picture.

The Offshore Safety Committee deals with these topics with focus on a probabilistic approach. Disciplines to be considered hence comprise methods for risk assessment, computation of loads and resistance and structural reliability methods. Recent trends and developments of offshore structures in the form of floating production systems are to be reflected, where system components in the form of risers, pipelines, mooring lines and positioning systems are included.
